The March for Life- Demonstration, Pilgrimage, and Spiritual Journey

The March for Life occurs in Washington D.C. every January. It is a great way for students to support the cause
of protecting the rights of all human beings by publicly demonstrating their beliefs. People march
from the Mall in front  of the Washington Monument to the Supreme Court, in a group of several hundred thousand people.

“The experience is exhilarating, humbling, and trying, as we experience the harsh weather to demonstrate our care for protecting human life.”

-write up and quote by Chase Johnson, 2013-2014 Didde Student Council President

Check out the March for Life website for more information.

The Didde center has a variety of opportunities available to students to help serve the poor and needy.

Alternative Spring Break Mission Trip

Every year a group of students from Didde go on mission to serve and give back to the community during their week vacation from school.  In the past, students have worked with Christ in the City missions in Denver, as well as the “Habitat for Humanity” program and traveled to Corpus Christi, TX, Dade City, FL, and Mobile, Alabama. If interested in attending such a trip, listen to the announcements at Mass/check the Bulletin for more information, or contact our FOCUS team at This email address is being protected from spambots. Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen

On the 2nd Monday of each month, the Center works at the Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen. This is a great opportunity to serve others who are less fortunate right here in Emporia. Volunteers are always needed to help serve the meal.  The Food Kitchen is located at the Heritage Center at 1028 Whittier. Interested volunteers are asked to sign up in outside the Didde Center Office.

Sleep in a Box

This is an annual event to help raise money for the Emporia Rescue Mission, which houses homeless men in our region. Students spend the weekend on the front lawn of the Didde Center in cardboard boxes and try to raise as much money as they can from people who pass by on Merchant Street. Meal are donated and there is a program from some of the homeless who are at the Rescue Mission. All proceeds go to the Rescue Mission. Interested? Catholic Hornet Religious Instruction With Student Mentors

C.H.R.I.S.M. provides an opportunity for students to serve handicapped members of the local community. On the third Thursday a month, students and CHRISM participants have dinner and an activity at the Didde Catholic Campus Center social hall at 5:30 P.M.

If you have been looking for a way to reach out and get involved in the community and to make a difference in someone else’s life, please take time to volunteer at the next CHRISM. Interested volunteers are asked to sign-up in the gathering space at the DCCC, or email us at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Volunteer Workday

Every spring, the students at the Didde Center dedicate one full day (typically a Saturday) to assist any community members who need help with yard work, household chores, and any other task they need help in doing.  This day is especially scheduled for any elderly or disabled persons who are in need of assistance. Student volunteers are assigned specific duties for the day, and are also fed lunch at the Center.
